Two were absent on business. Four Honorary Members were recognized. Rotary Clubs: Mesa/East & Sun Lakes cosponsored.

Meeting Summary - Observations Dan Baldwin presented a visitation flag from West Shreveport, LA - Mary Baldwin's former "Home Club". Eleanor summarized the basic ACLU's AZ thrusts - very informative!

Meeting Summary - Observations Curt levied RECORD fines via Flag Day questions. Jerry provided very informative handouts and ideas that could substantially reduce Home & Auto thefts/damage!
6-18-2001 DG Ben "Official Charter Presentation" & Gift Bell, Program "STRIVE in South Africa" Rod Carruthers
Meeting Summary - Observations DG Ben Eubank presented the signed, official BERCM Charter and the gift Rotary Bell for Rio Salado RC. Rod summarized his recent six week South Africa STRIVE trip - GREAT!
6-25-2001 "Installation of 2001-2002 Officers" and Web page review by Hal Wochholz. Comments were solicited.
Meeting Summary - Observations DG Ben Eubank had nominated Hal Wochholz as the BERCM Nominating Committee prior to March 5th chartering. He nominated the existing Officers and Board - approved!
7-2-2001 Rotary "4-Way Test" flag gift by Hal Wochholz. "Police Helicopters in Mesa" - Dave Salem
Meeting Summary - Observations Officer Dave Salem, Mesa Police, presented a program on the use and value of helicopters in routine surveillance and criminal pursuit police activities. They use Model 500 MD Helos!
8-13-2001 "Frequent Flyer Citation" to Hal Wochholz. "Mentoring/Tutoring" Opportunities MPS
Meeting Summary - Observations Cheri St Arnauld, MPS discussed the "Gear-Up", EVIT, and STRIVE memtoring/tutoring opportunities at MPS. BERCM participation would be a "First" for Boeing.
8-20-2001 "Venomous Bites & Stings of AZ" - Ms. Anne-Marie Krueger - Samaritan Regional Poison Center.
Meeting Summary - Observations Ms. Krueger discussed the various categories and numbers of venomous creatures in AZ (11 rattlesnakes, 43 scorpions, black widow spiders, gila monster, etc.) Call: 602 253-1222
8-27-2001 "DS512E Flight Simulator Program" by Will Farmer. Mesa Public Schools, AZ Flight Center, others.
Meeting Summary - Observations Will Farmer presented a visual summary of the four year flight simulator partnership between Mesa Public Schools, the Desert Sages, and Boeing. The activity is expanding state wide.

Meeting Summary - Observations President John Pennypacker led a spirited discussion concerning committee assignments and the need to "step up" and get the club going. Many assignments were made.
9-24-2001 "How To Run A Restaurant" Rex Griswold, Founder/Owner Anzio,s Landing Restaurant, Falcon Field Meeting Summary - Observations Rex provide a great lasagna lunch for all! He summarized the pros/cons of restaurant ownership/managing. "Too much work, too little money". Terrell Hansen was inducted - Sponsor: Shirley Baker

"Engineering Flight Test" BERCM Rotarian Rich Guin, Engineering Director Flight Test

Meeting Summary - Observations Will summarized the scope and responsibilities associated with engineering flight test at Boeing, Mesa. Rich emphasized the techniques and procedures, and "lessons learned" to the enjoyment of all! Thanks Rich!
10-15-2001 "Running Dinner Theaters" Rotarian Will Prathe, Owner, Broadway Palm Dinner Theater, Mesa (Brown & Higley) Meeting Summary - Observations Will surveyed the nationwide operations of the Prather family of dinner theaters. He discussed the selection process of the new Mesa theater "Broadway Palms". A movie and brochure were very informative. Thanks Will, we wish you success!

"Fund Raising & Club Assembly" Entertainment's "Allie" & John Pennypacker BERCM Club President

Meeting Summary - Observations Allie summarized the advantages to the club for sponsoring sales of the Entertainment book. $10 per book to the club. Account number "666478" can be utilized to credit BERCM for book purchases elsewhere.
10-29-2001 Status "Williams gateway Airport" presented by Executive Director Lynn Kusy. Upcoming musical discussed by Curt Wooley. Meeting Summary - Observations Lynn discussed the modifications, changes, etc. associated with Williams since the military exit in 1993. Curt Wooley informed the membership about the upcoming musical "Fiddler On The Roof", Mesquite HS in Nov.
11-5-2001 "What It Means To Be A Veteran" Fred Ferguson - Congressional Medal of Honor Winner Meeting Summary - Observations Fred discussed the services and facilities available to the vets in Arizona. He congratulated the veterans for their service to their country and emphasized the Honor of being a veteran! WHAT AN HONOR TO HAVE HIM AT OUR MEETING.

11-19-2001 "Why Every Rotarian Should Be A Toastmaster" Rick Stoddard, Rotarian, Past President Tempe South. Meeting Summary - Observations The local Boeing Toastmasters Club was discussed and BERCM Rotarians were encouraged to join and increase their presentation skills. Rick made a typical "Toastmasters" talk - 4-way-test emphasis.
11-26-2001 "The Rotary Foundation" Ben Eubank, past District 5510 District Governor (2000-2001) Meeting Summary - Observations

Ben discussed the elements of the Rotary Foundation, outlined some ongoing foundation programs - internationally, nationally, and locally. Will Farmer also outlined the AZ Education school donation options $250 max.

Nate presented an overview of Wills, Living Wills, and Power of Attorney appropriate for "that day". Will outlined his plans for a combined Apache model and his 50# Rotary shaped gear he obtained from a 2001 Spring Maine visit
